David Reid

I am an “Experienced lawyer who brings commerciality to the table”; “A practical thinker, who blends law with outcomes”.

I can write what I like, but it is the client testimonials that matter to me. This is what I am in it for, making people happy. The success for us and for our client comes as a by-product.

My skill set is broad, and my boundaries are certain. If I cannot help you with something, I will find the right person for you to get the outcome you need.

Playing a high level of team sport has taught me many things: leadership, teamwork & humility in success.

Those many clients who have stuck with me for the last 25+ years will know that these core values are important. It is why they have stuck with me.

You can sprout the law all you like, and you can dress yourself up in the finest suits, but it is the way you conduct yourself which is paramount. That is why the clients usually come back.

Background & Areas of Law

David is a corporate and commercial lawyer, who also holds an accounting degree. He has a Bachelor of Commerce from the University of Newcastle, and a Diploma of Law from the University of Sydney.

David has dedicated his practice exclusively to corporate and commercial law for over 25 years, with a specific focus on advising on mergers, restructures, incorporations, partnerships, trusts, joint ventures, commercial contracting, and funds management.

The law and accounting qualifications that David possesses enable him to provide extremely commercial and practical advice, which also considers the financial and tax implications.

David’s clients are mostly based in Australia, although many are now spread across the globe as he continues to maintain a close working relationship with his clients despite their location or time zone.

He represents clients with businesses in large to medium-sized enterprises in the property, development, construction, health care, mining, and professional services sectors, to name a few. Clients value his strong service ethic, and his ability to cut through to the issues that are most significant to getting their projects over the line. David also does a significant amount of private client work for high-net-worth individuals, many of whom are Directors or “C”-level employees of these enterprises.

The connection with Basketball

David’s dedication to basketball started as a player, which led to coaching, managment and now as a sports administrator serving on various boards in Australia and Internationally.

Currently, David holds two positions on the Central Board within the International Basketball Federation FIBA, as the Oceania President and First Vice President, in addition to sitting on the Legal Commission.

Previous board roles have included being the Deputy Chairman of Basketball Australia, the Chair of Basketball Australia’s Finance, Audit, and Risk Committee and the Chair of the Local Organising Committee (LOC) for the FIBA Womens World Cup held in Sydney 2022.
